In
the wake of Tibetan Uprising in March 10th 1959, and the resultant Chinese
forceful occupation and ruthless and brutal killing that followed the exodus of
Tibetans to neighboring countries. Leaving behind their own properties and land
thousands of Tibetans crossing Himalayan. In 1960 many of Tibetan are
settle in different part of Nepal as per their ethic and tribe. Under the guidance
of His Majesty Kingdom of Nepal under Nepal Red Cross Society. In 1975 more and
more Tibetan are leaving Tibet due to pressure from Chinese government. Most of
them and some from other settlement in Nepal settle in Kathmandu for better
economic. During that time most them as carpet weaver and some do odd job. Those
days many of children are send to India to study for free education and some of
parent they don’t want to apart there from children and traveling are expensive
due to economic condition. Many of parents keep their children in home and some
of them send to local school. As there is no Tibetan school Kathmandu. With Aim
of teaching Tibetan and preserve Tibetan culture Namgyal Middle Boarding
school was established in 1981 as Namgyal Hostel with only 20 students in a rented house
with several rooms in Chauni, Kathmandu and the students were going to a local
school; in 1982, a primary school was established in Kimdole, Kathmand. Children
from kathamandu valley and distant place like Mustang, Rasuwa, Solukhumbhu,
Dorpatan, Dolpo, Humla and Pokhara. Due to growing number of students, the school
required bigger and additional facilities, so in 1986 with the help of various
international and local donors, the school was upgraded and formally renamed
was Namgyal Middle Boarding School and in 1999 with the help of various
international donors including Fiona Fund, Belgium and SOS Kinderdolf International,
the present beautiful school with full facility was constructed in Ichangu,
Kathmandu. The classes range from Lower Kindergarten to Class Eighth with two
section each. In between 2016/2017 2653 students are studies at school and at
present 384 students are studying at school. And 24 teaching staffs and 22 Non-Teaching
staffs are working in this school.
Since the Tibetan Buddhism, language and custom
is a common with Tibetans and the people living in Himalayan regions and
sharing boarder with Tibet. In late 1980
enroll Himalayan children of Mustangi, Tamang or Lama, Bhote, Gurung, Limi,
Sherpa, Dolpali, Hyolmo, Tsumpa and others. At present number of Himalayan student
are more than Tibetan student at school.
